The Laurel Highlands Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is the largest wind and percussion ensemble at Laurel Highlands. The Symphonic Band consists of 9th through 12th graders. The 50-60 member ensemble performs standard and contemporary concert band literature from grade 3 to 4. In Spring 2010, the Symphonic Band performed at the VanderCook School of Music in Chicago as part of their spring trip.
The Symphonic Band rehearses every day for 45 minutes. All students interested in participating in Symphonic Band must audition during the first week of the classes for acceptance and after the winter break. Interested students should check the band website and bulletin board for audition packets. Student auditions will be evaluated on tone, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, as well as technical ability. Sight reading could also be a part of this audition. The dress attire for all concerts and performances is concert black.
